How this estimate is calculated
Each feature has a typical range of hours it takes to build. The calculator adds up the features you tick, then adjusts for a few things that change the real cost.
- 46 common features, grouped into the categories above, from user accounts and payments to AI and mobile apps.
- Built with AI in 2026. Building with AI tools is now standard practice, and it cuts build time by about 37% on average compared with a few years ago. The saving is biggest for routine work like screens, forms, and admin panels, and smallest for payments and connections to other tools, where every detail still has to be checked by hand.
- Features that depend on each other. Some combinations take extra work. For example, company accounts plus subscriptions means billing each company per seat. The calculator checks for 5 of these combinations.
- Bigger products take longer to test. Picking 3 or more AI features, or 15 or more features in total, adds time, because every new piece can affect the others.
- Launch. Every project includes 4 to 8 hours of final testing and going live.
- Price. Total hours multiplied by $30 per hour, with a minimum of $1,500 for any project.
- Timeline. Based on 25 hours of focused work a week, which leaves time for calls, reviews, and your feedback.
Use the result as a ballpark for budgeting. A fixed quote needs a short call, because the biggest cost drivers are things a checklist can't capture: connecting to systems you already use, rules you have to follow (for example, handling health or financial data), and how polished the first version needs to be.
Why not a bigger AI saving? Writing code got much faster, but checking it did not. Google's 2025 DORA research found that about 90% of software professionals now use AI, and that it magnifies a team's existing strengths and weaknesses. That's why the testing and launch time in this calculator is not reduced.
